History of the football club
Sochi Football Club was founded in July 2018. The official foundation date of the club is July 4. The team plays its home matches at the Fisht Stadium (capacity 45,994 viewers).
The team spent its first season in the FNL championship. Having started their games at the Slava Metreveli Stadium, the team finally moved to The Fish only by October 2018. The captain of that team was Evgeniy Pesegov, and the top scorer was Maksim Barsov. According to the results of the first season, the players of Alexander Tochilin took second place in the FNL standings, scoring 69 points in 38 matches, providing direct access to the Russian Premier League a couple of rounds before the end of the championship.
The start in the Russian Premier League was not easy for the team. Despite the arrival of a large quantity of skilled players, the team could not score and win for a long time. Five matches without goals, the first victory only in the eighth round (3-0 away with Rubin) and the struggle for survival from the first rounds of the Championship. After the wins over Dynamo (3:2) and Akhmat (2:0), the team was again waiting for an unfortunate series. As a result, Alexander Tochilin left the coaching post, the team finished the calendar year under the leadership of Roman Berezovsky, and at the end of the year it was headed by Vladimir Fedotov.
The start of the second season in the Tinkoff RPL Sochi was a success, "bars" immediately gain a foothold at the top of the standings. The first defeat happened only in the 8th round in Tula (2:3), while Sochi remained undefeated the longest in the Championship. The successes of the beginning of the season were kept until the end of the calendar year: after beating Dynamo (2-0), the Sochi team went on a winter break in the top four.
The new calendar year began with the Cup in Krasnodar. The 2-1 victory allowed Sochi residents to achieve the best result in the history of all Sochi football - reaching the 1/4 finals of the National Cup. The Sochi team failed to go further: a 1:3 defeat from the future owner of the Lokomotiv trophy and relegation from the tournament. The successful games of Sochi at the end of the season, coupled with the victory of the railwaymen in the Cup, allowed Sochi to get into European competitions. For the first time in history. Nikita Burmistrov, Christian Noboa, Anton Zabolotny and Artur Yusupov spent their most productive seasons in their careers with Sochi. In April, the team played its hundredth match in history! In this anniversary game, CSKA was defeated (2:1), the 150th goal of the team in history was scored by Artur Yusupov.
the club celebrated its third birthday on July 4, 2021. On this event, the warmest wishes were sent to the club by the stars of world football Xavi, David Villa and Sergio Aguero. A couple of weeks later, Sochi successfully debuted in European competitions, beating Azerbaijani "Keshla" twice, but stumbled in the next round at Partizan Belgrade.
The 2021/22 season is the third for our team in the Russian Premier League.
